Weather is different from climate

When we talk about weather, we are talking about day to day changes in the atmosphere. Is it going to be sunny or cloudy, or is it going to rain or snow? When we talk about climate, we talk about changes in long term averages.

So, we can say that climate is the trend in weather patterns over an extended period of time. Did you know that scientists keep day to day weather statistics for 30 years in order to draw conclusions about local and regional climates?

First philosopher of Chinese Taoism

The philosophy of Taoism is expounded in a book written over two thousand years ago and known as The Tao Te Ching.

According to Chinese tradition, the author of this book was a man called Lao Tzu, who is said to have been an older contemporary of Confucius.

Though the exact details are unknown, according to some sources, Lao Tzu was born, and lived in northern China. For part of his life, he was an historian or curator of official archives, most probably at Loyang, the capital of the Chou dynasty monarchs. Lao Tzu was not his original name, but is rather, an honorific title meaning roughly 'old master'.

In this book, Lao Tzu describes his belief that the world order is based on the Tao (the way or path) that one follows in life. This path is in fact the 'natural order'. Humans should strive for a balanced relationship between themselves and nature.

Lao Tzu was highly regarded in his own time and became influential to succeeding generations of theologians.

Meteorologist

Meteorologist are the scientists who study the atmosphere to see how it affects the environment.

They predict the weather and climate trends.

In ancient times, people used to forecast the weather by studying the clouds, noting the dampness of the air and the shift in the wind, studying the behavior of cattle, and drawing upon folklore.

Today however meteorologists have sophisticated instruments to help them forecast the weather.

Hammurabi

Hammurabi(1795 - 1750 BC) was the king of Babylon's first dynasty. He led his armies to defeat Akkad, Elam, Larsa, Mari and Sumer, creating the Babylonian Empire.

He not only made great conquests, but also built canals, temples, roads and libraries. He enlarged his kingdom, kept it intact and made his neighbors fear his might.

However, despite his numerous conquests and great world's, Hammurabi would have been forgotten as just another warlord, but for the world's first ode of laws which was issued by his hand.

The Code of Laws was a list of rules on how to behave, and it covered an enormous range of areas of human conduct. Hammurabi's code was the precursor of the legal systems under which most modern societies still function.

But this code was little more than forgotten folklore until 1901, when French archaeologists discovered it in the ruins of ancient Babylon.
