He not only made great conquests, but also built canals, temples, roads and libraries. He enlarged his kingdom, kept it intact and made his neighbors fear his might.
However, despite his numerous conquests and great world's, Hammurabi would have been forgotten as just another warlord, but for the world's first ode of laws which was issued by his hand.
The Code of Laws was a list of rules on how to behave, and it covered an enormous range of areas of human conduct. Hammurabi's code was the precursor of the legal systems under which most modern societies still function.
But this code was little more than forgotten folklore until 1901, when French archaeologists discovered it in the ruins of ancient Babylon.
